Date of response:

Summary of request

Request

What action has been taken by the GLA to protect Londoners from incinerator emissions following the Inside Croydon article of 15 October 2024

Response

Please find below the information we hold within the scope of your request:

The Mayor continues to oppose new incineration capacity, which isn’t needed to manage the city’s non-recyclable waste. This position is set out in the Mayor’s London Environment Strategy.

The Mayor has no powers to take enforcement action for operational incinerators. The Environment Agency regulates these facilities and are responsible for ensuring that emission limits are not exceeded.
