Regulation, needs and risks in Green finance - The French experience: lessons learnt and common challenges ahead.

Climate action requires a wide range of solutions. Finance has its full role to play. In the context of the first London Climate Action Week, Jean-Pierre Jouyet, Ambassador of France to the UK, is delighted to invite you to a morning session on green finance to reflect on the current trend and to share France’s experiences. This event will be the occasion to learn more and engage with high-level institutional stakeholders, investors, financial institutions and non-governmental organizations.

France was the first country to issue a sovereign green bond in January 2017. France demonstrated political and private-sector commitment to ensuring a sustainable transition to carbon neutrality by 2050. The involvement of the financial sector in tackling climate risks is key to reaching this target. France has shown its leadership in promoting green finance products both to investors and companies. There is still room for improvement and ambitious measures.

Introduction by Jean-Pierre Jouyet, French Ambassador

Keynote speech by Anthony Requin, Director-general of Agence France Trésor (French Debt Management Office).

Keynote speech by Robert Ophèle, Chairman of the Autorité des Marchés Financiers, French Financial Regulator.

Three panel discussions on: i) how regulation and supervision can foster green investments (Autorité des Marchés Financiers, Bank of France, French Treasury). ii) case study on the interest of green finance products for corporates (BNP Paribas, Finance for Tomorrow, Green Finance Institute). iii) challenges ahead: extra financial data needed to assess risk and performance (HSBC, WWF, Carbon4Finance).
