Developing London's solar energy sector

Solar Skills London aims to grow the capital’s solar energy sector by creating career pathways for the next generation of solar experts, increasing the number of registered solar installers in London and helping create more green jobs.

Solar Skills London is a crucial part of the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan's commitment to achieve 1.5 gigawatt of installed solar capacity by 2030 under the Accelerated Green pathway and two gigawatts by 2050. It will also support the Mayor’s ambition for a net-zero London by 2030.

The latest phase of Solar Skills London is being led by industry certification body MCS, with Solar Energy UK and Community Energy London supporting delivery.

This will focus on increasing the number of registered solar installers in London by supporting eligible companies to become MCS registered, as well as providing ongoing support and mentoring to ensure their success in the solar sector.

The partners will also work to engage local authorities, schools, colleges and training providers as well as the private sector to promote the solar industry in London.

The first phase of the programme also included the creation of an online Solar Careers Hub, the development of a dedicated solar career pathway and learner/apprenticeship training curriculum, and a training grant scheme for solar installers in London.
