Statement to mark the second anniversary of lockdown

Created on
23 March 2022

A statement from the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to mark the second anniversary of the first national lockdown.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “As we mark two years since the first national lockdown, we remember the many thousands of Londoners who tragically lost their lives to COVID-19.

“The pandemic has had a terrible impact on our city and our country, and, while we continue to build our recovery, it’s important that we reflect on those who have been lost, the incredible efforts of our key workers who kept us going and the monumental achievement of the vaccination programme to save lives and help open our city up again.

“We have seen the very best of our capital throughout one of the worst periods in our history, and as we look to the future and dealing with the virus, it’s important that we continue to stand together.”
