Public ballot opens for places at Fan Zone to watch England

Created on
23 June 2021

Londoners will have the opportunity to watch England’s UEFA EURO 2020 round of 16 game live in Trafalgar Square as a public ballot for tickets opens this morning.

1,000 tickets, distributed in pairs, are available to watch the match on Tuesday 29th June. The ballot opens at 9am at https://fanzone.london and will close on Saturday 25th June at 12pm with successful applicants notified 24 hours later.

England’s group stage matches against Croatia, Scotland and the Czech Republic were cheered on by key workers, including NHS and London Ambulance Service staff and transport workers. The capacity of the Fan Zone has now been expanded from 750 to 1,000 for the knock-out round matches.

A further ballot will take place should England progress to the quarter-finals. The Fan Zone will screen both semi-finals and the final regardless of England’s involvement. Further ballots will be announced nearer the time.

Anyone without a ticket is being asked not to travel to Trafalgar Square and to instead enjoy the game at home or in another appropriately socially distanced setting, adhering to public health guidelines in place during the tournament.

Potters Fields Park will continue to host the Football Village, opening from midday every day, for the duration of the tournament. The Football Village is free to attend, with a range of cultural entertainment, sports and community activities, food and drink stalls and screens to watch selected matches and highlights. No England games will be shown at Potters Fields Park.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan said: “As England’s journey through the tournament continues, I’m delighted that we can welcome a thousand Londoners to Trafalgar Square to watch the next match.

“London’s key workers have generated a tremendous atmosphere on Trafalgar Square throughout the group stage matches – even in the torrential rain during the Scotland game – and I’m pleased we’ve been able to increase capacity for the last-16.

“While this is a time for celebration, we must remember there are still restrictions in place. I urge anyone not fortunate enough to get a place in the public ballot to continue to watch the matches at home or in a Covid-safe environment.”
