Statement from the Mayor of London on Covid vaccine

Statement from the Mayor of London responding to the approval of the Covid Pfizer vaccine for use in the UK

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said:

“On behalf of all Londoners I want to thank all the scientists, volunteers and everyone involved in the development of this vaccine.

“It is huge achievement to have produced a vaccine that has met the strict standards of safety, quality and effectiveness to be approved for use here in the UK.

“From next week our amazing NHS will get going on the task of vaccinating the most vulnerable and those who work to keep them safe. After many dark months, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“But until the vaccine is fully rolled out to everyone who needs it, we must all continue to play our part to keep ourselves and others safe. I will certainly get vaccinated when the time comes and urge everybody to do the same.

“With a route out of this crisis in sight, now is certainly not the time to take our foot off the gas. I ask all Londoners to continue to follow the public health rules and continue to protect each other and our NHS.”
