Assembly responds to further TfL financial settlement delay

Transport for London (TfL) has secured another short-term extension of its Government bailout. The agreement will ensure the continuation of public transport in the capital until 11 December 2021.

In response to the announcement, Caroline Pidgeon MBE AM, Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee, said:

“The continued delays are not useful – recent passenger numbers are 40% of pre-pandemic levels on the Underground and 61% on the bus network. These levels will increase over time and Londoners need to know their transport needs will be met as demand grows.

“If TfL is to deliver £300 million of savings or new income sources in 2021 to 2022, where will these savings or new income come from?

“What is needed now is a long-term deal and I sincerely hope this extra six months will give both sides the time to come to a longer-term financial settlement which London so desperately needs.”
