Jennette Arnold OBE AM, Chair of the London Assembly, said:
“Today is a day when Londoners and the rest of the country can reflect on the tremendous contribution the Windrush Generation has made to our great city and the United Kingdom.
“From post war re-construction, maintaining our public services, to music, food, culture and civil rights, the arrival of the Windrush marked a dynamic new era in British history.
“The Windrush generation and their descendants are yet another strand of the diverse fabric that is multicultural Britain.
“This day should be continuously celebrated for its importance and impact on our great country.”
