Met Acting Commissioner to be questioned on Daniel Morgan

Policemen
Created on
25 May 2022

An inspection by the police watchdog in the wake of the Daniel Morgan Independent Panel report found that the Metropolitan Police's approach to tackling corruption within its ranks is "fundamentally flawed".

Daniel Morgan was a private investigator murdered in southeast London on 10 March 1987. Despite four investigations, two reviews by the Met, and an intelligence-gathering operation, no one has been convicted of his murder.

Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) found that the Met “had not learned all the lessons from its failed investigation into the 1987 murder” and raised five causes for concern.

The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will meet tomorrow to discuss the inspection and its findings with the Met. Other topics in the session include:

  • Stop and search
  • Mayor’s Action Plan for Transparency, Accountability and Trust in Policing – two years on
  • Crime prevention

The guests are:

  • Acting Commissioner Sir Stephen House QPM, Metropolitan Police Service
  • Sophie Linden, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime

The meeting will take place on Thursday, 26 May 2022 from 2pm, in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
