Assembly response to continued Crossrail uncertainty

Crossrail train
Created on
19 September 2019

Responding to the news that Crossrail could cost more and be delayed even further, Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee, Florence Eshalomi AM said:

“Revelations that the project is entering a ‘very high-risk phase’ are going to massively frustrate Londoners.

“Systemic issues have simply not been addressed and slippage after slippage is unacceptable. Why have the new governance procedures we were promised not solved the delivery pushbacks and cost escalations? We need concrete commitments to an opening date and the bill must stop spiralling.

“Crossrail will be a great asset to London once it is finished. But at this rate, Londoners can be forgiven for thinking it never will be! These mistakes cannot be repeated on future major infrastructure projects.”
