New Assembly, new Members and a new Chair

City Hall
Created on
14 May 2021

The Mayor of London and London Assembly elections on May 6th saw twelve new and thirteen re-elected Assembly Members join the body that holds the Mayor to account. In its first meeting of the new term, the London Assembly has today elected a new Chair and Deputy Chairman for the year ahead.

New Chair of the London Assembly, Andrew Boff AM said:

“In what has been a very difficult year for Londoners and our city, I would like to pay tribute to those London Assembly Members who have retired and in particular, Navin Shah who chaired the Assembly during one of the most challenging years of our generation.

“During the year ahead, the London Assembly will continue to hold the Mayor to account on issues that matter most to Londoners. As our city rebuilds from COVID-19, Londoners will need strong voices representing them from every corner of our city and as we are London’s voice, that is what we will do. The London Assembly is elected by you, to look out for you. Our role is to ensure that London continues to be a great place to live and work.”

Keith Prince AM has been elected as the new Deputy Chairman.

At the meeting, London Assembly Members also paid tribute to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and agreed a motion of support for Her Majesty The Queen.

The Assembly also agreed the Membership and Chairs of a range of Committees to lead investigations into issues ranging from public transport to the Mayor’s budget.
