Welcoming the announcement that John Keble Primary School and Ark Franklin Primary Academy in Brent will be included in the Mayor of London’s air quality audit, Local London Assembly Member, Navin Shah AM, said:
“There demonstrable evidence showing that air quality can have a long-term detrimental impact on the health of our children. Our children’s wellbeing is of paramount concern. I’m therefore particularly pleased that The Mayor is putting special emphasis is being given to assessing and improving air quality in locations where schools suffer from poor air quality.
For a considerable time I’ve been working with local groups to improve air quality on Chamberlayne Road and I hope that the current audit will go some way to deal with the problem.
I also welcome further measures taken by the Mayor to clean up the capital’s air, including the introduction of the T-charge and plans to extend the Ultra-Low Emission Zone. We now need the government to follow his lead and take steps to tackle London’s toxic air, not least by introducing a new Clean Air Act and a diesel scrappage scheme.”
