In response to the announcement of the latest emergency funding settlement between the Government and Transport for London (TfL), local London Assembly Member, Len Duvall AM, said:

“This is yet another disappointing short-term deal which will only last until June. It’s unacceptable that Lewisham residents are facing increased fares and the prospect of significant cuts to bus and tube services due to the punitive conditions that the Government has imposed upon TfL.

“We also need to see Ministers come forward to pledge long-term capital funding for TfL to ensure our local transport infrastructure can be repaired, replaced and added to.

“I am sure local people will also have questions about why the TfL services they use on daily basis are under threat, when the Government has just revealed that it has now given almost £12 billion to private rail companies with no strings attached to support them through the pandemic”.
