In response to the publication of the report from the Inquiry into the death of Daniel Morgan, London Assembly Member, Len Duvall AM, said:
“We’ve been waiting on this report for far too long and I’ll be asking questions about why that is.
“The report makes very serious allegations about institutional corruption in the Met Police, where a number of officers actively frustrated and undermined the initial investigation and in doing so robbed Daniel’s family of justice. It is now only right that those officers are called to account for their actions and the recommendations of the report implemented.
“Daniel’s family have been badly let down by the police and a full public apology from the Metropolitan Police and other agencies involved in the case should be quickly forthcoming.
“It must have been a very long 34 years for Daniel’s family, waiting for some of their questions to be answered and we can’t allow them to have suffered in vain. The Met and the Home Office must provide concrete reassurances that these failings will be accounted for, will never again be repeated, and that that action will be taken to demonstrate such a commitment.”
