News from John Biggs (past staff): Will Whitechapel ticket office be saved?

Created on
17 July 2013

Local London Assembly Member John Biggs today questioned Boris Johnson at Mayor’s Question Time on proposals to close the ticket office at Whitechapel station. John Biggs AM has previously branded the plans “a backward step”.

John challenged the Mayor, reminding him that Whitechapel station will serve three lines when it is rebuilt ahead of the Crossrail project and It will also serve an increasing number of passengers, many of whom are vulnerable and on their way to stressful hospital appointments. In response the Mayor said he “understood” these concerns.

Local Labour London Assembly Member John Biggs said:

“I am pleased that I had the opportunity to question the Mayor on this issue and that he stated that he understood the concerns of local residents and commuters who use Whitechapel station. I hope now that he will review this decision and that common sense will prevail.

“I will be writing the Mayor to ask him to pledge that the new station will have a fully staffed ticket office.”
