News from John Biggs (past staff): Olympic Stadium opening "can't be a one-off"

Created on
17 January 2013

Following the news that the Olympic Stadium may open in July to host the London Athletics Grand Prix, Labour London Assembly Olympics Spokesperson, John Biggs AM said:

"We are pleased that the Mayor has bowed to pressure and is now working hard to open the Olympic Stadium before the Rio Olympic Games in 2016. We need to keep the pressure up and ensure that there is a long term viable tenant in the Olympic Stadium as soon as possible, hosting this event is great news but it can't just be a one off. Our area of East London needs a permanent tenant to help increase investment and create long term jobs for local people.

"The Olympic and Paralympic Games were a great success and have helped to sell London and the UK to othe whole world. We have proved that we are a can-do country, at ease with our identity and ready to welcome businesses and investment from around the world. Now it is time to show we can deliver a real legacy by regenerating the East End and creating long term jobs for local people."
