News from John Biggs (past staff): Biggs Slams Olympic Park Public Lock Out

Created on
16 May 2012

John Biggs has slammed the announcement by Olympic Officials that the public will not be able to use all of the Olympic Park venues until at least Easter 2014.

The Legacy Corporation says the extraordinary delay is to allow for the redevelopment of the entire Olympic Park to make it “more urban and more public-friendly.

Local Labour London Assembly member, John Biggs today said: “This is just the latest in a series of delays; yesterday we found out the Cable Car probably won't be ready for the games. Whilst I welcome the redevelopment plans, this long delay in opening the Olympic Park after the games is simply unacceptable. For most of my constituents, the opening of the Olympic Park will be the nearest they will get to being part of the games. I will be calling on the Mayor and his Development Corporation to review their decision as I am sure an incremental opening would be possible. It seems that the convenience of engineers counts more than my constituents”
