Local London Assembly Member John Biggs has welcomed the news that Wapping London Overground station will remain open as usual on Marathon Day. Previously, TfL have operated the station as “exit only” effectively leaving local residents stranded in Wapping.
Following a large number of complaints from local residents last year, John contacted TfL in January to make the case that the station need not be “exit only” on Marathon Day this year. TfL had cited concerns on crowd control as the justification for preventing passengers travelling from the station but John and local residents didn’t accept this, believing that any issues could be dealt with if and when they arose.
John is delighted that TfL have now taken on board his representations. Not only have agreed that the station will be open as usual they will be putting additional trains on the morning.
Local London Assembly member, John Biggs said “This is good news for my constituents in Wapping. It was ridiculous that in previous years they were left stranded and I welcome the fact that TfL have listened to the views of their passengers”.
