News from John Biggs (past staff): “Mayor must follow through on cycling commitment”

Created on
06 November 2013

Responding to today’s news that all Cycle Super Highways will be reviewed and segregated where possible, local London Assembly Member, John Biggs AM, said:

“"I express my deepest sympathy for the victim and their family following the latest tragedy on Cycle Super Highway 2. I share the concern of many other people that these Cycle Super Highways create a false sense of safety and security for cyclists.

“Today’s announcement from the Mayor is welcome and all Cycle Super Highways must be reviewed as swiftly as possible and segregated to avoid any further casualties or deaths. There have been too many tragedies and a lot of public money has been spent on the existing Cycle Super Highways that could have been used for segregation. Cycle Super Highway 2 is clearly a particularly hazardous route and needs to be, in my view, at the top of the list for radical reconstruction. We now need the Mayor to follow through on today’s commitment and make our roads as safe as possible.”
