Local London Assembly Member John Biggs has welcomed the work starting on the south west corner of Bow roundabout which will introduce further safety measures for cyclists. He met with TfL officials yesterday at City Hall and urged them to install safe pedestrian crossings, something he has been pressing TfL to do for years.
Work will soon be starting on the extension of Cycle Superhighway 2 along Stratford High Street.
Local London Assembly member, John Biggs said:
“The advance stopping lines and extra set of traffic lights introduced in the north east corner of Bow roundabout have improved the safety for cyclists. I also welcome the long overdue safety measures which are now underway for cyclists travelling from west to east.
“However, I am still very concerned about safety, particularly of pedestrians, at Bow roundabout. TfL say motorists will be faced with mile long queues should pedestrian crossings be installed. Whilst I accept that we don’t want life to be harder for car drivers, pedestrian safety is extremely important and something must be done to tackle this urgent issue.”
