In response to the news that the Mayor has awarded £748,000 of funding to Enfield Council to restore the Enfield Chase area to create 60 hectares of new publicly accessible woodland, local London Assembly Member, Joanne McCartney AM, said:

“This is an incredibly important initiative that will help to unlock a large swathe of the green belt for local people.

“The planting of thousands of trees across the Chase will also significantly boost the borough’s efforts to become carbon neutral by 2040.

“This time last year, the capital became the world’s first National Park City, but the Covid-19 outbreak has illuminated the fact not all Londoners have equal access to outdoor space.

“Large scale projects like these, supported by City Hall, are vital to addressing this urgent issue as well as bolstering our capital’s green recovery from the pandemic”.
