News from Joanne McCartney: Comment on TfL takeover of suburban London rail

Created on
21 January 2016

Commenting on today’s announcement that responsibility for train services on Great Northern franchise will be taken over by TfL from 2021, Labour London Assembly Member for Enfield and Haringey, Joanne McCartney said:

“I am delighted to see that after years of campaigning the Government have seen sense and agreed to transfer responsibility for the Great Northern franchise to TfL.

“Whilst this is a positive decision and will make train services directly accountable to local people, the fact we have to wait 5 years to see it happen is a real disappointment. If the Government truly understood the issues passengers face when using these lines they’d be pushing to make this change as soon as practically possible.

“I will be pushing TfL to ensure that when the Great Northern franchise is taken over, there is adequate and good quality rolling stock so services do improve for passengers.”
