News from Joanne McCartney: Comment on a new HMIC report on the Metropolitan Police

Police and Crime Plan

Commenting on a new HMIC report on the Metropolitan Police which finds the force “requires improvement” Labour’s London Assembly Policing spokesperson, Joanne McCartney AM said:

“This is an extremely worrying report from HMIC, the judgement that the Met requires improvement is something we should all take incredibly seriously.

“At the heart of the problems identified is a shortage of both police officers and funding with HMIC finding that the lack of trained detectives and basic equipment is undermining their ability to reduce crime and keep people safe.

“For years the Mayor has tried to claim that the cuts to police budgets and neighbourhood teams have had no impact. This report lays that myth to rest, showing that people are being left less safe and avoidable re-offending is not being prevented as a result of staff shortages.”
