New London Overground services in Hackney

London Assembly Member Jennette Arnold AM has welcomed Transport for London (TfL)’s takeover of train services calling at London Fields, Hackney Downs, Rectory Road, Clapton, Stoke Newington and Stamford Hill. TfL’s London Overground took over operations on 1st June. Jennette Arnold OBE AM hailed TfL’s proven record on delivering good services but said the integration of London’s rail networks “shouldn’t stop there”.

London Overground’s takeover of the Liverpool Street to Enfield Town and Cheshunt service forms part of an overhaul of suburban rail routes.

As part of the package TfL have promised more reliable services, lower fares and cleaner stations. New trains will begin to be introduced from 2018, but TfL say current trains will be “smartened up” over the next 12 months.

Ms Arnold hailed TfL’s “proven record” on the Tube and Overground but said other routes across the capital should be “brought under one integrated London network.” Local Labour London Assembly Member Jennette Arnold OBE said:

“We’ve been saying to the Government for a long time that we need to see the proper integration of London’s rail services, this takeover is a welcome indication that the message may finally be getting through.

“Transport for London’s proven record on the Tube and Overground will give hope to commuters in Hackney that their services will improve, but we shouldn’t stop there. Promises of better trains, lower fares and fully staffed stations are welcome, but we should be extending those promises to a whole number of routes across our capital that would benefit from being brought under one integrated London network.

“As chair of TfL, the Mayor really must step up his efforts in his final year and ensure that we have a transport network that can support the speedy growth of our global city.”
