In response to the decision made by Southwark Council’s Planning Committee to approve plans for the regeneration of the Elephant and Castle town centre, local London Assembly Member, Florence Eshalomi AM said:
“Now that a decision has been made, I urge Delancey to get to grips with providing the necessary support to long-standing traders and businesses that have been left in a state uncertainty for so long.
“The onus is also on Delancey to swiftly deliver the terms of its renewed offer to the Elephant and Castle community, and properly invest in and refurbish the shopping centre, in turn, making reasonable accommodations for the traders that would like to stay.
“Whilst this decision will make the way forward for local businesses relatively clearer, it must not come at the cost and fragmentation of the existing community”.
