London Assembly Member welcomed students to City Hall
Dr Onkar Sahota AM, Local London Assembly Member for Ealing and Hillingdon, welcomed a group of students from sixth-form colleges across his constituency to City Hall on Thursday, to watch the Mayor’s Question Time Meeting.
Students from Featherstone High School, Drayton Manor High School, The John Lyon School, Villiers High School, Elthorne Park High School and Dormers Wells High School all attended, as part of a Politics Summer School.
Dr Sahota AM welcomed students to City Hall, as they observed Mayor’s Question Time, the regular meeting in which Assembly Members question and scrutinise the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. The students saw the Mayor answer questions on a number of topics such as the cost of living crisis and holiday hunger, the Met Police and rights for renters.
After the meeting, students had a tour of the new City Hall, now located in the former Crystal building, in the Royal Docks, Newham. They then heard from Dr Sahota and had a question and answer session on how the Greater London Authority (GLA) works, its history and the role and work of London Assembly Members.

“It was fantastic to welcome these students from my constituency to the new City Hall. I was glad to see them in the gallery for Mayor’s Question Time, watching first hand how the London Assembly works, and how it scrutinises the Mayor and holds him to account.
“It is vitally important that young people see how democracy works close-up and I was extremely impressed by the students’ knowledge and enthusiasm. They are welcome back to visit anytime!”
In addition to watching the Question Time session, students had the opportunity to meet the Mayor, Sadiq Khan as well as other Assembly Members from across London.
Students involved in the summer school have also visited Parliament and Ealing Council.
