Tackling the price of electric taxis is central to their take up

Caroline Pidgeon AM, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, commenting on today’s announcement by TfL to help taxi drivers ditch the dirtiest diesel taxis said:

“Today’s announcement is little more than a re-announcement of existing policies.

“Support to encourage taxi drivers to retire the most polluting diesel black cabs is obviously welcome. However for the policy to be a real success drivers must have the confidence that there will be no significant financial penalties for purchasing Zero Emission Capable taxis.

“The Mayor could help drive down the cost of electric taxis by bulk purchasing a large number and then selling and leasing them to drivers and garages.

“Tackling the price of electric taxis is central to their high take up, as is ensuring that a network of rapid electric charging points is quickly in place across London.”
