The London Assembly Transport Committee has written to the Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps MP, asking him urgently to publish the full terms of the funding and financing deal reached between the Government and Transport for London (TfL).
The Committee recognises that financial support to TfL is needed, given how vital transport infrastructure is to London’s economic and social recovery in light of COVID-19 and as we emerge from the pandemic.
The Committee wants to examine the details of the funding agreement to fully understand any implications attached to it.
Dr Alison Moore AM, Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee said:
“In aid of transparency and openness, the financial deal between the Government and Transport for London (TfL) needs to be published as a matter of urgency.
“A deal was necessary, but it can only sustain TfL in the short-term and it could have long-term implications for Londoners. The London Assembly stands up for Londoners and I’m sure Londoners will want to see this deal and its caveats in full.
“To do our job as a Committee we need to be able to see the detail, in order to assess any possible implications and make any subsequent calls and recommendations to the Mayor, TfL and the Government in the interest of all Londoners.”
