Brexit uncertainty and its impact on London

Brexit
Created on
04 September 2019

Operation Yellowhammer is the codename for the UK Government’s contingency planning for the most severe disruption following EU Exit without a withdrawal agreement.

Guidance provided to London’s entrepreneurs, microbusinesses and SMEs, by the London Growth Hub, highlights that there is still significant uncertainty about the impact of Brexit and its implications for some businesses. [1]

Tomorrow, the London Assembly EU Exit Working Group will explore and provide new insight into:

  • the current state of preparation and planning for Brexit
  • its potential impact (including worst case scenario) on London, particularly with regard to:
    • loss of structural funding from the EU (ESF and ERDF)
    • loss of/reduced funding for the London higher education (HE) sector

  • Joe Owen - Programme Director, Institute for Government

  • Dr Fiona Twycross AM - Deputy Mayor for Fire and Resilience, GLA
  • John Hetherington - Deputy Head of Emergency Planning, London Fire Brigade
