Last night, 71 police officers from 40 regions across England and Wales were recognised and awarded for their bravery at the 24th Police Bravery Awards.

In response, Chairman of the London Assembly Police & Crime Committee, Unmesh Desai AM, said:

“The London Assembly Police & Crime Committee would like to extend its congratulations to all the officers who were awarded and nominated for a Police Bravery Award last night.

“Police officers are at the core of our communities throughout the UK. They face many challenges but still ensure that Londoners are safe on our streets and in our neighbourhoods.

“One particular winner from London, DC Joby Reeve won an award for his bravery when he was off-duty. DC Reeve put his own safety at risk when he witnessed a man being robbed by several men. DC Reeve sustained an injury as he selflessly protected the victim from the attackers. It’s stories like this that remind of us of the courage, bravery and fearlessness that police officers show every day of their lives.

“We are so fortunate to have hundreds of officers like DC Reeve on our streets and while these awards are a great way of recognising their hard work and dedication, we need to do more to ensure police officers are rewarded for the hard work that they do. Earlier this month, the London Assembly unanimously agreed a motion calling on the Mayor to lobby the government to increase police officers’ pay. We hope that some positive news on this is announced next week.”
