Assembly response to London Bridge Verdict

202020 Challenge
Created on
16 July 2019

Today, an inquest found that the London Bridge attackers were killed lawfully.

In response, Chairman of the London Assembly Police & Crime Committee, Unmesh Desai AM, said:

“The London Assembly Police & Crime committee welcomes today’s verdict on the lawful killing of the London Bridge attackers.

“On the night of the attack, the Metropolitan Police not only acted rapidly but under huge strain, pressure and uncertainty. Their bravery and courage saved many Londoners’ lives. Police officers often have to throw themselves into difficult and uncertain situations and on that night, the officers on duty were faced with an unpredictable incident that needed immediate action. The professionalism that the officers showed that night was exceptional and many more lives could have been lost without their brave and selfless actions.

“Our thoughts are also focussed on the families and loved ones of the innocent victims who were lost and injured that night. Hopefully today will go some way to help with the healing process after that tragic evening.”
