In response, Chair of the London Assembly Police & Crime Committee, Unmesh Desai AM, said:

“Last night, a police officer was stabbed in East London whilst on duty. The London Assembly Police & Crime Committee is deeply saddened by this news.

“Police officers risk their lives every day for Londoners and put themselves in dangerous situations to ensure that our city is safe.

“Police officers have one of the hardest jobs in the country and we are lucky enough to have one of the best police services in the world protecting London 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their bravery and dedication to our safety never goes unnoticed.

“On behalf of the London Assembly Police & Crime Committee, I send my best wishes to the injured officer and wish him a speedy recovery.”
