Provide promised Night Tube reopening timetable, says Assembly

Night Tube roundel
Created on
03 March 2022

The Night Tube is currently running on the Victoria and Central lines only.

When it is fully operational, the service runs on Fridays and Saturdays on the Victoria, Jubilee, and most of the Central, Northern and Piccadilly lines.

On November 11th, 2021, the London Assembly requested a timetable for reopening the Night Tube. On November 18th, 2021, the Mayor agreed to provide it.

As yet, a timetable for the full reopening of the Night Tube has not been provided. Today the Assembly agreed a motion requesting it again.

Emma Best AM, who proposed the motion said:

“The Mayor promised in November he would provide a timetable for the full reopening of the night tube.

“We are still waiting, and Londoners are still in the dark as to when we can expect a return, or that information.

“The Assembly has again unanimously called for the Mayor to do the right thing and publish a timetable that enables customers, businesses, TfL staff and partners to prepare for re-opening.

“These delays must end, and the full reopening of the Night Tube must be a top priority."

The full text of the motion is:

This Assembly recognises that the Mayor has failed to provide a timetable for reopening the Night Tube in full as requested by the Assembly at the 11 November 2021 Plenary meeting and agreed to by the Mayor at the 18 November 2021 Mayor’s Question Time meeting.

This Assembly notes that since then, the Mayor has written to the London Assembly Economy Committee to confirm that:

TfL is now working to reintroduce the Night Tube on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines as soon as possible in 2022. Operator training still needs to take place on these other lines. Their return must also be planned around vital engineering works, including the closure of the Bank branch of the Northern line which began in January to allow the completion of the upgrade works. A timetable for the resumption of the remaining lines will be made available soon to give customers and businesses time to prepare.

The Assembly reiterates its call for a timetable for the full reopening of the Night Tube.
