In response to the Prime Minister’s speech today on the progress of the Government’s Brexit negotiations with the European Union, Labour’s London Assembly Economy Spokesperson, Andrew Dismore AM, said:

“This was a convoluted and desperate speech from the Prime Minister providing no assurances to Londoners and businesses in the capital that a deal will be reached. It marks the culmination of the Government’s long list of atrocious failures in their negotiations with the EU.

“It is an absolute disgrace that we are still in such a precarious position with just weeks to go.

“The impending possibility of a hard Brexit spells disaster for London and the rest of the country. No one voted to recklessly throw our economy into turmoil for generations to come.

“As Londoners, we must do all we can to prevent the UK from crashing out of the EU. It is only right that the vote must now be given back to the people”.
