Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore has criticised the attitude of the Senior Coroner for North London Mary Hassell, who ordered an invasive post-mortem of a Jewish man, despite the request of his family not to.

Ms Hassell was successfully legally challenged last year and the court ruled against her for not taking into account requests to release bodies early for burial for religious reasons.

Mr Dismore said:

‘Ms Hassell must go! She has shown time and time again that she is incapable of showing any respect to the diverse religious communities in London. It is a cruel blow to the bereaved to order an invasive surgery when the family have requested that this not happen.’
