Aspiring home hunters are invited to attend the FIRST STEPS Homes Show where they can find out about a range of new affordable properties as they search for homes to buy or rent in the capital.
The free show, supported by the Mayor of London and hosted by Share to Buy, is the perfect opportunity to find out about new homes across every London borough.
Developers showcasing new homes at the event include L&Q, who offer a wide range of affordable homes, and Triathlon, who are behind the East Village development at the site of the former Olympic Village.
At the event brokers will be available for one-to-one chats, including MAB Sherwins, who specialise in mortgage advice in the affordable housing sector. Share to Buy’s own in-house mortgage team will also be present as part of the 30-strong broker offering.
The Mayor is investing huge sums as part of a long-term effort to double the number of homes being built for Londoners. He is on track to deliver a record 100,000 low cost homes by 2016 and is helping 50,000 hardworking Londoners into affordable home ownership.
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: “In London we’re facing a huge demand for housing. This free event is a vitally important to help Londoners find out about the wide range of properties available through low cost home ownership. I’m investing record sums to increase the number of low cost homes across the city and turbo boost house building, and I encourage every London house hunter to visit to the FIRST STEPS show and hopefully find a great new home.”
Founder and Director of Share to Buy, James Cartlidge said: “We are delighted to be hosting the FIRST STEPS Homes Show for the second year running. Last year was a great success but this year we want to provide an even better show and so we have booked more floor space, offering more stands and more mortgage brokers. We are proud at the way our partnership with the Mayor of London to provide FIRST STEPS has continued to succeed online, but we all know that the internet experience only goes so far – this is the chance for first time buyers in London to meet the experts face to face who make affordable housing a reality”.
Sales Director at L&Q, Cathy Lloyd said: ““In the current economic climate, it is more important than ever to raise awareness of Shared Ownership and its benefits for first time buyers in London. So many Londoners are paying monthly rents which can work out to be higher than the cost of owning a home through Shared Ownership. The FIRST STEPS Homes Show is a fantastic way to learn more about Shared Ownership and see what the providers of low cost home ownership have to offer.”
Sales and Marketing Manager at Triathlon Homes, Olaide Oboh said: “We are pleased to showcase the shared ownership and intermediate rent homes in East Village at the FIRST STEPS Show. We look forward to meeting hundreds of first time buyers who are keen to hear more about the various options to get on the property ladder in London”.
The show is part of the Mayor’s wider work to tackle the housing demand in London, which includes:
- Building 100,000 affordable homes over eight years by 2016
- Releasing acres of public land - the equivalent of 290 football pitches - for housing development. New land release developments include St Clements in Mile End, Greenwich Peninsula, and Passive House, Rainham, Essex
- Helping 50,000 Londoners buy their own home
- Millions of people have visited the Mayor’s FIRST STEPS site and since Share to Buy were appointed over 1,100,000 people have visited the new site and nearly 70,000 Londoners have registered on the database
