A secret oasis of green space in the midst of the city, a piece of architecture that takes your breath away or a treasured local landmark – the Mayor Boris Johnson wants Londoners to reveal their favourite, little-known corners of the capital.
From Hammersmith to Hackney and Erith to Enfield, the city is crammed with hidden gems that might not make the tourist guides but are celebrated by locals in-the-know. To champion the best of all things London, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson has launched an online competition to find the most creative and quirky images that sum up why the capital is such a great place to live.
Simply take a snap of your favourite London image and post your picture using the hashtag #CelebrateLDN on one of City Hall’s new social media channels. Four winners will be chosen by public vote and their photos will become the official background image on one of the Mayor of London’s new Twitter channels and feature on the Mayor of London’s Instagram account throughout the summer. Each winner will also receive a £100 Amazon gift card.
The Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “With its centuries of illustrious history abutting dynamic, cutting-edge innovation, London is unrivalled as an exuberant, energetic capital city. And who better to capture the essence of London’s greatness than those who know every inch of it intimately: Londoners themselves. It couldn’t be simpler – share your photos of what London means to you, using one of our online channels, and put your corner of the capital firmly on the map.”
Enter the competition via any of the following online channels using #CelebrateLDN :
The competition will run from 26 March to 11 April 2014. Judge Dave Burt, manager of instagram.com/london, will whittle the entries down to 20 finalists to be announced on 17 April. The public will then have the opportunity to vote for their favourite entry between 18 - 25 April by visiting www.facebook.com/ldngov and clicking on their favourite picture. Four winners will be announced on the three social media channels on 2 May.
