Statement from the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime

Created on
03 April 2012

There are reports of alleged racist behaviour by Metropolitan Police Officers. Whilst not anticipating the outcome of any disciplinary or CPS decision, the Chief Executive of the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, Catherine Crawford said:

"Racism is always reprehensible, but racism within the Metropolitan Police Service, whose officers and staff are in a special position of trust, is particularly deplorable and will not be tolerated. We are totally committed to driving forward the changes needed within the MPS to ensure it reflects and serves the entire community. Everyone must be treated with respect and dignity by the police and any breach of conduct will be taken extremely seriously."
