Superloop in Bexley Village

Key information

Petition presented by: Thomas Turrell Assembly Member

Date petition submitted: Thursday 7 November 2024

Petition presented at: London Assembly Plenary

Summary of petition

“We ask the Mayor of London and Transport for London to provide a Superloop bus stop in Bexley Village.

The SL3 express bus service between Thamesmead and Bromley currently stops at Chislehurst, Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, Bexleyheath, and the Elizabeth Line at Abbey Wood. But despite passing by Bexley Village, it doesn't stop.

Transport for London's preferred route is along Penhill Road, adding traffic to the already heavily congested road and delaying the bus service. However, due to an issue at the Arbuthnot Lane junction near the Anchor, it currently travels southbound via Bexley Village.

We believe the route should change to permanently travel via Bexley Village with a stop at the War Memorial, bringing the Superloop to the Village and avoiding the congestion at Penhill Road - without delaying the service.

Changing the route would make it easier for people living in Bexley Village to access Queen Mary's Hospital, the Elizabeth Line, and nearby town centres by bus. It could also bring more visitors to the area and support our fantastic local independent shops, cafes, and pubs.”
