Petition presented by: Jennette Arnold OBE

Petition presented at: London Assembly Plenary
Summary of petition
“We the undersigned ask that you and the Greater London Authority show your support for the residents of the four London residential estates of Cumberland Market, Lee Green, Millbank and Victoria Park in their opposition to the proposed sell off of our homes by the Crown Estate.
We are concerned that the sell off will break up our communities and permanently deprive London of 1500 affordable rented homes available for key service and health care workers which London can ill afford to lose."
Response information

“I have responded separately to the motions that were put forward at that meeting and stated that I wrote, together with Council Leaders whose boroughs are affected, to the Chair of the Crown Estate on 22 March arguing against the sale.
However, I do not have the power to intervene to prevent a sale. The Crown Estate has informed me that Peabody Housing Trust is the preferred purchaser for their homes. I am satisfied that Peabody is a long established and well respected housing provider and that a sale to Peabody would be a positive outcome.
Furthermore, the covenant that has been placed on the sale goes some way to addressing concerns which I and others have raised. I will now be working with the boroughs concerned to develop mechanisms to ensure that the conditions of the sale are adhered to in perpetuity.”
