Knife Crime on London's streets

Key information

Petition presented by: Caroline Pidgeon Assembly Member

Date petition submitted: Thursday 7 June 2018

Petition presented at: London Assembly Plenary

Summary of petition

“We call on the Mayor of London to immediately announce an action plan to tackle the escalation in knife crime on London's streets.

We urge him to replicate the Glasgow initiative which treats this epidemic as a public health issue. This approach will bring together partners in the NHS, Youth Services, Education, the Judiciary, parents and community groups to build a framework to reduce the carrying of knives on London's streets. We believe this problem will not be resolved by the Police working in isolation.

We in particular, want to see Youth workers in all A&E departments to engage with patients attending with stab wounds; more dedicated youth workers and a programme of support for teachers and parents in identifying gangs and behaviour leading to attacks.”
