Underground Tannoy Noise Levels

Elders from within my constituency would like you to know that the announcements on the London Underground tannoys are often unnecessarily loud and they would like you to carry out an audio monitoring exercise, and if necessary reduce the volume, as soon as possible. Will you confirm this will be done?

Adequate seating on the Underground

Does the Commissioner think there is adequate seating on the London Underground particularly as the number of elderly and disabled users are increasing as accessibility improves especially since the introduction of step free access at some London Underground stations?

Stratford City

There is considerable congestion at the moment from traffic to and from the London Boroughs on either side of the Lea Valley. What are the forecasts of how this will change when Stratford City is built?

Chingford to Stratford rail link

On various occasions it has been stated that there is not a sufficiently robust economic case to support the reinstatement of a direct Chingford to Stratford rail link. Please will you share with the Chingford Line User Group (CLUA) the data and assumptions that have been used in these studies, including those of the London Development Agency, that have been used to draw this conclusion?

Hall Farm Curve reinstatement III

Is it realistic to expect rail passengers from Chingford and Walthamstow to change at Hackney Downs and Hackney Central where there is a long and not particularly attractive walk, a lift and then a further wait for a second train, which would cost them more (zone 4 or 5 to zone 2 then back to zone 3) than a direct service from the Chingford line to Stratford via the reinstated Hall Farm Curve, if they need to get to Stratford?

Hall Farm Curve reinstatement II

A reinstated Hall Farm Curve would simplify the movement of empty trains between Chingford sidings and Ilford depot, by removing the need to reverse at Liverpool Street, thus freeing up platform capacity at this heavily used station. It would also enable trains to be diverted in some circumstances when train, signal or points failures or overhead line problems occur. Do you support this argument?

Hall Farm Curve reinstatement I

The reinstatement of the Hall Farm Curve would enable residents of Chingford and Walthamstow to access the new development of Stratford City and the many transport connections possible at Stratford much more quickly than is possible by using existing public transport services. It would also help to relieve some of the traffic congestion in Waltham Forest. Would you support the reinstatement of the Hall Farm Curve if all the necessary funding and other logistics are in place?

Extension of the Stratford-Stansted Airport Service

The high number of passengers using the Stratford - Lea Valley - Stansted Airport service, introduced 2 years ago, indicate that a service to Walthamstow and Chingford is likely to be similarly well used. Would you support such an assumption?

Direct rail service to Stratford

Do you agree that the recent approval of the Crossrail scheme, creating, as it does, spare capacity on the existing tracks between Stratford and Liverpool Street, presents an opportunity to satisfy both the demand for additional trains to and from Stansted Airport and the aspirations of Chingford and Walthamstow residents for a direct rail service to Stratford?

ELLX Phase 2

Although on the opposite side of the River from my constituency, many of my constituents especially in Hackney have no less an interest in the final completion of the East London Line Extensions (ELLX) package and the creation of an Outer Circle rail link around Inner London. For Hackney it will mean a one-third increase in train service frequency to and from Dalston Junction and our other three new stations, as well as a wider choice of destinations and connections in south London.
