  • Meeting date: 15 June 2011
Why are you slashing budgets and reducing the number of officers and PCSOs in Brent?

Tube Station Platform Announcements

  • Reference: 2011/1735
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 15 June 2011
I have been contacted by constituents living next to West Harrow tube station who are continuously disturbed by tannoy announcements. I was reminded that you have previously pledged to 'reduce the number of pointless announcements at open-air Tube stations in order to reduce noise pollution for local residents', yet I have two sets of residents at West Harrow and Kingsbury stations who still have to listen to endless, loud and disruptive announcements. My constituents have battled with this problem for a number of years so the new procedure implemented in 2008 to 'ensure consistency and rapid resolution of complaints' is...

Incapacity Benefit and Mental Health

  • Reference: 2011/1734
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 15 June 2011
Given the connections between income inequality and health inequalities, as detailed in your Health Inequalities Strategy, are you concerned that welfare reforms could see increasing levels of mental illness in London?

UK Uncut & Fortnum and Masons

  • Reference: 2011/1733
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 15 June 2011
Many thanks for your two answers in regard to the costs of UK Uncut's actions, including the somewhat puzzling reference to the support of Labour politicians. Given your strong opinions on the firm, would the Mayor care to comment on last year's findings of the Charity Commission, that the Garfield Weston Foundation, owners of Fortnum's, broke charity law in regard to donations totaling £900,000 made to the Conservative Party between 1993 and 2007?

Kilburn Tube Station Allotments

  • Reference: 2011/1732
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 15 June 2011
Does the Mayor welcome the raised beds at Kilburn Tube Station, a project run Transition Town Kensal to Kilburn? How can the Mayor facilitate the use of Transport for London property for further 'guerrilla gardening' opportunities?

Pan London HIV Funding

  • Reference: 2011/1731
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 15 June 2011
Are you concerned by the budget reductions at the Pan London HIV Prevention Programme?

A Good Day for Bad News

  • Reference: 2011/1729
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 15 June 2011
When did it become clear the upgrade works on the Jubilee line would go on beyond Easter Monday? I have repeatedly tabled questions asking if this would be the case, yet I received no notification before the 28th of April, and I have seen no explanatory materials, or your standard apologetic letter, on London Underground property. Were you hoping this would be overshadowed by the Easter holidays and the collective effervescence of the Royal Wedding? Is hoping Londoners won't notice your lack of grip over this project emblematic of your attitude towards your constituents?

Delayed responses to questions

  • Reference: 2011/1728
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 15 June 2011
Thank you for your two answers to my question 1400/2011, but why the failure to respond to my question 1399 / 2011. which requests no factual information and relates directly to services under your control? Is your failure to respond further indication of your contempt for Jubilee line users?

Olympic Lottery

  • Reference: 2011/1727
  • Question by: Murad Qureshi
  • Meeting date: 15 June 2011
I was most surprised to learn that you had applied for Olympic tickets through the public lottery. I am intrigued to learn which events you applied for. Does your lack of success in the lottery mean that you will not now be getting any VIP tickets or attending any of the Olympic events in 2012?

Foreign Student fees

  • Reference: 2011/1726
  • Question by: Murad Qureshi
  • Meeting date: 15 June 2011
It was estimated on BBC Newsnight that further education institutions earn £8 billion annually across the whole country from foreign student fees. How much of that is earned in London?
