Defining the 'Front Line'

  • Reference: 2011/2912
  • Question by: Joanne McCartney
  • Meeting date: 12 October 2011
The HMIC's model of defining the 'front line' as 'the police front line comprises those who are in everyday contact with the public and who directly intervene to keep people safe and enforce the law' and they state that it has the benefit of being formulated with the involvement of ACPO, APA, APACE as well as the MPS. The MPS use the Operational Policing Model (OPM). Which system do you believe is the most appropriate? Do you believe the Met should adopt the similar HMIC model for a more consistent and widely endorsed approach to enable unambiguous and clear discussions...

  • Meeting date: 12 October 2011
Page 27 of your Policing Plan outlines the proposed number of Police Officers to March 2014 is 31,460. However, when the HMIC repeated figure has been quoted to you and your Deputy Mayor for Policing, you have both denied it, and your Deputy even called it 'cobblers'. Is the figure in the MPA/MPS Policing Plan 2011-14 incorrect? If so, please can you provide the correct figure for the proposed number of Police Officers for 2013/14?
