Parking at Canning Town Station

  • Reference: 2012/2276
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 04 July 2012
This is a more general issue, I think, exemplified by Canning Town station. Where a driver is collecting a disabled traveller and must temporarily park their vehicle in a setting down bay in order to assist the traveller into their vehicle, they may be technically liable for a penalty notice for contravening the 'no parking' rule. Is this reasonable and, while aware of the risk of abuse, should leniency or a regulatory change or a reasonable 'defence' be allowed in such cases?

Transport Priorities

  • Reference: 2012/2275
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 04 July 2012
Will you be revising the transport strategy and if so, on what time-scale and will it be a full review or a series of amendments?

Barking Station

  • Reference: 2012/2274
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 04 July 2012
You will be aware that the station is becoming a very congested hub, and experiencing rapid passenger growth. I welcome the recent investment to rebuild the bus stands and street area outside the station, which has improved this area and the management of crowding, and its sense of safety. Further investment is however needed, to improve the ticket office and barrier areas and to improve platform access, preferably with the installation of escalators and improved step-free access (while respecting its listed status). Can you advise what priority this enjoys in TfL's investment programme and, given that it is a Network...

International Students

  • Reference: 2012/2273
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 04 July 2012
What representations are you making to Government, possibly in partnership with London Higher, to ensure that visa reforms and regulatory inspections do not place at risk or impose an undue burden on the excellent work, and ability to recruit, of London's bona fide HE institutions in attracting overseas students? You will be aware that this is an internationally competitive business at which London excels but that the example of ill-judged regulatory changes in the USA several years ago shows how easily this can be jeopardised (In asking this question, I should declare that I am a Governor of a London...

11,000 Homes

  • Reference: 2012/2272
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 04 July 2012
For MQT 1597/2012 I asked, 'Why did you claim, during the election, that you would 11,000 homes on the Olympic Park, when the London Legacy Development Company had announced this in October 2010?' Your answer was, 'Please see my response to oral MQ 1319 /2012.' The only mention of the Olympics in that oral response is, "Ensuring a true Olympic legacy, that is obviously to come. Some of those homes are there already but there will be, altogether, 11,000 new homes and 10,000 new jobs." I do not think that this actually answers the question I posed, so can you therefore...

10,000 Jobs

  • Reference: 2012/2271
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 04 July 2012
For MQT 1596/2012 I asked, 'Why did you claim, during the election, that you would create 10,000 Olympic legacy jobs, when the London Legacy Development Company had announced this in October 2010?' Your answer was, 'Please see my response to oral MQ 1319 /2012.' The only mention of the Olympics in that oral response is, "Ensuring a true Olympic legacy, that is obviously to come. Some of those homes are there already but there will be, altogether, 11,000 new homes and 10,000 new jobs." I do not think that this actually answers the question I posed, so can you therefore...

Host London House

  • Reference: 2012/2270
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 04 July 2012
For MQT 1590/2012 I asked, 'The decision to host 'London House' was announced in April 2011, so why did you re-announce it during the election campaign?' Your answer was, 'Please see my response to oral MQ 1319 /2012.' There was no mention of 'London House' in that reply. Can you try to answer the question again?

Olympic Legacy Expenditure

  • Reference: 2012/2269
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 04 July 2012
For MQT 1587/2012 I asked, 'Why, during the election, did you promise to publish the Olympic legacy expenditure when this has already been happening since April 2011?' Your answer was, 'Please see my response to oral MQ 1319 /2012.' The only mention of the Olympics in that oral response is, "Ensuring a true Olympic legacy, that is obviously to come. Some of those homes are there already but there will be, altogether, 11,000 new homes and 10,000 new jobs." I do not think that this actually answers the question I posed, so can you therefore answer the question, without referring...
