Adequate space on buses

  • Reference: 2012/3118
  • Question by: Onkar Sahota
  • Meeting date: 17 October 2012
Ealing Transport for All do not believe that the new routemaster bus is accessible because 'TfL does not seem to realise that the bottom floor has to be shared between the disabled, the elderly, people with buggies, people with shopper trolleys and people with mountains of shopping. On a Brighton bus there is room for everyone.' This is an issue with many bus routes, not just the routemaster. Ealing Transport for All believe that Brighton buses are much better designed. Have TfL discussed bus design with their Brighton colleagues at any point, or do they plan to do so?

Priority seating labels

  • Reference: 2012/3117
  • Question by: Onkar Sahota
  • Meeting date: 17 October 2012
My constituents have noticed that priority seating labels are often missing on London buses and the London Underground, how often are these labels checked and replaced?

District line grab handles

  • Reference: 2012/3116
  • Question by: Onkar Sahota
  • Meeting date: 17 October 2012
I am told by Ealing Transport for All that the refurbished District line trains do not have grab handles by every exit. Why was this decision made as it causes difficulty for disabled passengers?

Priority seating (2)

  • Reference: 2012/3115
  • Question by: Onkar Sahota
  • Meeting date: 17 October 2012
I am told that the disability seating on Brighton buses are a good example of how priority seating labels work for disabled people. Could consideration be given to adopting this in London?

Priority seating (1)

  • Reference: 2012/3114
  • Question by: Onkar Sahota
  • Meeting date: 17 October 2012
I note that the priority symbol has been woven into the fabric of the seats on the new Central line trains. I understand from my contact at Ealing Transport for All that some of these are difficult to see. What consultation did TfL undertake with disability groups on these?

West End Commission

  • Reference: 2012/3113
  • Question by: Fiona Twycross
  • Meeting date: 17 October 2012
Did the Mayor make a submission to the West End Commission and, if so, did he ask for free parking during evenings and weekends to be maintained?

Change to Licensing Act

  • Reference: 2012/3112
  • Question by: Fiona Twycross
  • Meeting date: 17 October 2012
Is the Mayor aware of the recent change to the Licensing Act allowing venues accommodating audiences of less than 200 or unamplified music to hold performances without a licence? Given it appears there is limited knowledge regarding the changes what will the Mayor do to ensure the message about this gets out to venues and local authorities?

Payment for professional services - musicians

  • Reference: 2012/3111
  • Question by: Fiona Twycross
  • Meeting date: 17 October 2012
Does the Mayor think that people should be paid to work? If so, does he agree that musicians should be paid to perform and that it was unfair that, unlike other workers paid to put on the Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies and other events in relation to London 2012, some musicians were asked to play without payment? If he does agree this was unfair, what is he doing to resolve the issue with LOCOG and ensure that musicians involved in the events earn a fair fee for their performances?

Closed bids for new tenants

  • Reference: 2012/3110
  • Question by: Fiona Twycross
  • Meeting date: 17 October 2012
Is the Mayor aware of reports that some letting agencies are using system of closed bids when renting out properties in London which may be increasing the cost of renting properties to new tenants desperate to find accommodation? If so, does he condone this practice and if not, what will he do to prevent this practice becoming widespread?

Safety on construction sites

  • Reference: 2012/3109
  • Question by: Fiona Twycross
  • Meeting date: 17 October 2012
Does the Mayor agree that the fact construction workers were directly employed in delivering London 2012 contributed to making the 2012 sites safer for workers? If so, what will he do to ensure that lessons are learned about increased safety and included in the planning of future publically funded projects in London and promoted in privately funding schemes?
