What City Hall is doing

Alongside this campaign, the Mayor is investing £1 million in additional support for young men and boys across the capital.

Delivered by his Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), the funding will reach young men:

  • At school: Targeted interventions on masculinity in secondary schools and in pupil referral units, training trusted adults and mentors to help guide young men at risk and to tackle issues exacerbated by misinformation and online influencers.

  • At home: Funding will deliver training for fathers on understanding and promoting healthy masculinity, identity and relationships, recognising the important role they can play as positive role models in families.

  • In the community: Football plays a unique role in the lives of many young men and boys across the city, so the VRU will be working with existing and new partnerships to fund specialist training for football coaches to act as positive role models. There will also be additional investment in training youth practitioners who work with at-risk young men.

This stands alongside the wider work the Mayor is delivering to open up opportunities to young Londoners. From investing in youth clubs to funding free holiday activities and sports programmes, we know that young people thrive when they have safe spaces to go where they can make real world connections.
