Bus service Netherne village

  • Reference: 2024/3254
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 10 October 2024
Netherne Village is an isolated community located 1.5 miles from Coulsdon, just beyond the GLA boundary, with no public transport options. A resident survey revealed that the village relies heavily on Coulsdon for education, health, leisure, and transport connections. The nearest train stations are Coulsdon South and Coulsdon Town in Zone 6, and the closest bus routes are the TfL 405 and 463. The survey also revealed that most residents use Oyster cards but nearly all residents are forced to travel to the stations by private car or taxi. Given that TfL is required to connect those living outside London...

Quality of TfL Cycleways opened in summer 2024

  • Reference: 2024/3253
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 10 October 2024
Constituents have raised concerns about the quality of cycleways designated in summer 2024 by Transport for London (TfL) with issues such as poor surfaces, speedhumps and narrow lanes on the Cycleway to Lewisham, and a large dismount section in Chingford Mount Cemetery on Cycleway 60. Could you explain: a) how TfL applied the Cycle Route Quality Criteria to these routes, b) why they have been considered suitable to be signed as Cycleways and, c) if any further investment is planned to improve these routes, particularly to ensure that they are accessible for all users?

TfL Meal and Grocery Delivery Motorcycle Road Safety Charter

  • Reference: 2024/3252
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 10 October 2024
A constituent has raised with me their concerns that no community groups or trade unions participated in the drafting of the Transport for London (TfL) Meal and Grocery Delivery Motorcycle Road Safety Charter, and that, most of the principles in the Charter do little to acknowledge the enormous impact the major app-based food delivery companies have on London’s roads or to mitigate the safety issues caused by the companies’ performance demands on workers. How are you tracking progress on the impact of the Charter, and where is this information published?

  • Reference: 2024/3251
  • Question by: Caroline Russell

From 25 December 2025, the Cleaner Vehicle Discount for the Congestion Charge zone will no longer apply. Tender process for advertising contracts for TfL

  • Reference: 2024/3250
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 10 October 2024
As part of the tender process for its advertising contracts, Transport for London (TfL) asked bidders to consider the environmental impact of advertising and to help TfL continue supporting you in your aim to make London Net Zero by 2030. During this process was there any discussion about implementing a ban on fossil fuel advertising, as called for by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres?

Bus journey times

  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 10 October 2024
The latest network wide average London bus speed is 9.4 mph, as reported during the September London Bus Alliance meeting. This speed was the highest so far in 2024. In comparison, the average speed at the same time in 2023 was 9.6 mph and in 2022 it was 9.8 mph. What further action will you take to improve the reliability of bus journey times as outlined by the target in your Transport Strategy?

New bus lane roll-out

  • Reference: 2024/3248
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 10 October 2024
It was reported at the September 2024 London Bus Alliance meeting that only 10.9 km of new bus lanes have been delivered on Transport for London (TfL) and borough roads, against a TfL target of 25 km of new bus lanes by the end of March 2025. Could you tell me: a) how likely is it that TfL will deliver the remaining 14.1 km by the end of this financial year, b) what are the barriers to delivery, and c) what analysis has been made of the impact on bus journey times?
