  • Reference: 2023/1632
  • Question by: Keith Prince

The GLA website states “The Mayor is determined that the GLA leads the way in openness and transparency. Our commitment to openness and transparency means that we… help Londoners hold us to account by publishing information on how we operate and perform.” How do you think this statement fits with your failure to publish the last 3 years of Taxi and Private Hire financial positions?

TPH Driver Policy

  • Reference: 2023/1631
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 18 May 2023
TfL’s Taxi and Private Hire Driver Policy states “In the event that a driver has been disqualified under the totting procedure, a licence will not normally be issued until at least 12 months after the end of the driving disqualification.” Given that 12 points from the totting-up process is the irreducible minimum to qualify for a 6-month driving disqualification and ‘not normally’ does not mean ‘never’. Can you tell me under what circumstances would TfL re-licence a taxi driver before issuing a further 12-month civil punishment on top of a spent 6-month criminal conviction?

Duty of Candour: Covid Memorial for London Transport Workers

  • Reference: 2023/1627
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 18 May 2023
The title of TfL’s 26 April 2023 press release about the unveiling of its ‘Covid Memorial for London Transport Workers’ is entitled: “We must never forget them - Mayor and London’s Transport Commissioner pay tribute to London’s transport workers who tragically lost their lives to coronavirus”. Do you agree that (a) both TfL’s press release and the Memorial itself fail to state the exact number of Transport Workers who died from Covid-19 and (b) TfL lacks any information about the actual number of PHV and Taxi Drivers who died from Covid-19 (Cf. inter alia, your responses to Questions 2021/1975, 2021/4898...

  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 18 May 2023
Following up your response to question 2022/1635, please can you explain why you think your refusal to specifically memorialise the 3 cyclists and 1 pedestrian killed by Crossrail construction vehicles while requesting TfL to “explore the possibility of a more permanent memorial to all those who have lost their lives in London as a result of road collisions”, is not an attempt to whitewash TfL’s poor oversight of its contractors’ road safety performance from the public record?
