Barbara, how are you planning to use those stories, those opportunities, to really build enthusiasm among Londoners? Because there is some scepticism particularly from those who are more physically remote from the Lea Valley. There is some scepticism around whether they will benefit and these are the ways of engaging them. Can you give us some ideas of how you will be doing that?

I am pleased with what you said about the registering of volunteers. I know that New York and some of the continental bids are perhaps a little ahead of us, so it is good to know where we are catching up. I wanted to press you a little harder. At the beginning you talked about getting the balance right between a winning bid and a bid that spreads the benefits around London and so forth. My question, Mr Mayor, is not about the minority of Londoners who enjoy football, but it is about how many gleaming stadia we can cope with in London.

I do not think the residents of Birmingham consider it a National Stadium, do they, Lord Harris? Chair, are we not also building a new stadium that is going up after much argy-bargy at Islington for Arsenal Football Club? There is talk about new stadia for Tottenham and other clubs. Do you see stadium overload in London? Do you not see that there is an issue where we have got gleaming new stadia cheek by jowl with schools and hospitals and other facilities in London that are in urgent need of renovation?

Excuse me, but most of the Board papers from the LDA are stamped `confidential" and that is half the problem. Other members around this table are nodding.
